Patna: Computer science student Medha Kumari has bagged a Rs 39.25 lakh per annum job with software major Adobe, the highest package offered in campus placements this year at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, where it is raining jobs.
Medha hails from Madhubani district where her father Manoj Kumar Karak is a small trader and mother Benu Karak a homemaker. A shy Medha refused to say much about her achievements. "Whatever I have achieved today is because of hard work and dedication," she said, also saying that her family and teachers played a "major role" in her success.
"Medha was selected from 40 students who had appeared for a test," NIT-Patna training and placement in-charge Samrat Mukherjee said. "Her final interview was held in Calcutta where she was selected from among six students."
The next best offer came from Amazon, another software firm, which offered placement to six students at an average annual package of Rs 27.5 lakh. The placement session commenced in July and till date 250 job offers have been made. Many students got multiple offers in different companies.
Sources said over 175 of 332 eligible students for academic year 2014-18 had already received placement and the placement session would continue till March/April.
In the past few days, several companies, including Namekart - a global leader in domain name consulting & brokerage, Vedanta - a diversified metals and mining company, and KPIT Technologies, have visited the institute to recruit candidates.
Namekart offered a Rs 8.10 lakh per annum job to three students, Vedanta a Rs 7.95 lakh per annum job to 10 candidates and KPIT a 4.65 lakh per annum job to three students.
Other companies that offered jobs include Alstrom, a transport and power company, Optum, an IT-enabled health services firm from United Health groups and SAP, a multinational software corporation.
"This year, many new companies, including start-up companies such as Oyo rooms, Reve Systems and others, visited the institute," said Shivans Singh, a final year computer science student. "The placement figure will go up as compared to previous years." Shivans, who hails from Lucknow, has been placed with United Health Group at a package of Rs 10.5 lakh per annum.
Sources said the placement figures had improved because of strengthening of infrastructure. Also, all NIT undergraduate and post-graduate courses now have National Board of Accreditation (NBA) affiliation, making NIT's degree a globally recognised one now .
