BBC World Service - What we do
The BBC World Service is the world’s largest international broadcaster, reaching 246m people weekly. With World Service English radio, and multiplatform output in 29 languages currently, it’s announced its largest expansion since the 1940s, meaning it will soon be available in forty languages including English.
Eleven new services will launch in the following languages – Korean; Oromo; Amharic; Tigrinya; Gujarati; Telugu; Punjabi; Marathi; Yoruba; Pidgin and Igbo, and there will be significant investment into new platforms and programmes. The expansion is a result of the funding boost for the BBC World Service announced by the UK Government.
The BBC’s Director-General has set a target for the BBC to reach 500m people worldwide by its centenary in 2022. We particularly want to reach new, underserved and younger audiences around the world. As part of this ambitious and global expansion we are looking to recruit a number of positions around the world. New jobs will be advertised here all the time, so please make sure you bookmark this page.
