The centralized admission process would be conducted in all government and private-aided colleges of Chandigarh from next academic session.
While deliberating the admission status in affiliated colleges of Chandigarh in a meeting of the State Higher Education Council (RUSA), Jitender Yadav, state project director (RUSA)-cum-director, higher education, elaborated that from the next academic session, the centralized admission process would be conducted in respect of all government and private aided colleges of the UT. This would facilitate more transparency and convenience to students.
It was found that a large number of candidates could not find admission in Chandigarh colleges. In case of BCom in which 7,412 forms were received, only 2,380 students were able to take the admission for which centralized admission was conducted by Panjab University. In case of BSc, BBA, BCA, BSc (biotechnology honours), more than 70% desirous students could not get admission because of non-availability of seats.
It was also discussed that 'A' NAAC graded colleges of UT should be encouraged for acquiring autonomous status. The council also discussed various proposals submitted to the ministry of human resource development in the area of livelihood college, vocationalization of higher education, startup proposal, international experts in curriculum development and language lab. The activity reports of the colleges conducted out of RUSA grant by affiliated colleges was also appraised.
The assessment and accreditation status of affiliated colleges was also reviewed. tnnPanjab University vice-chancellor Arun Grover proposed that the State Higher Education Council would organize International Yoga Day every year in collaboration with the UT administration and Government College of Yoga and Health Education to be nodal agency for the event and proposal was unanimously adopted .
The State Higher Education Council (RUSA) meeting was held under the chairmanship of Grover at Chitkara University, Rajpura campus. The council has unanimously approved that Prof Manoj Arora, director, PEC, would head the committee to review the technical and infrastructure reforms in making the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26, a seat of excellence in this part of the country. The academic reforms agenda of MHRD with reference to admission procedures was deliberated upon to ensure transparency and credibility in admission procedure in institutions of higher education.
