Nominations/Applications are invited for the post of Director, Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), Bangalore on deputation (including short term contract).
The Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (InStem, http://instem.res.in). Bangalore is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology. Government of India. InStem's mandate is to promote research and training in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. InStem aims to foster interaction amongst basic scientists, engineers and clinicians in ways that spur collaborative research to address fundamental questions in stem cell biology and attempt to breach scientific, technological and translational barriers to progress in Cell therapy and regenerative medicine.
The Institute has an excellent location in the Bangalore and is part of a developing bioscience cluster of institutions: The* National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS-TIFR, where InStem is currently located). The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) and C-Camp (an innovation and entrepreneurship driver for InStem and NCBS). InStem derives great benefit from the institutions in the cluster, from the nearby Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) as well as from the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHNAS). InStem has major collaborative programmes with Kyoto, Stanford and Cambridge Universities and with the Institute for Molecular Oncology (IFOM), Milan.
InStem seeks a Scientist with an excellent scientific record in the area of life sciences and with demonstrated or potential leadership skills to lead the Institute as its Director.
Nominations/Applications are invited for the Post of Director, InStem, Bangalore in the pay scale of? 80,000/- (Fixed) per month and usual allowances as per Government of India rules. The applicant should be preferably below 55 years of age, but for exceptional candidates the age limit can be relaxed by the Selection Committee. The candidate should have a Ph.D or equivalent qualification in any area of life science or an M.D or equivalent qualification. A minimum of 15 years of independent research experience and an excellent track record as evidenced by publications, patents, and peer-recognition is expected. Experience in successfully managing scientific programmes/ centres /institutions will be of value, and younger candidates are expected to demonstrate potential in the above mentioned areas.
